In response to Thursday’s tragedy at Fort Hood, Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center encourages individuals to continue their regular donations to help ensure an adequate blood supply is available.

Shortly after the incident, Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center contacted The Blood Center of Central Texas, Scott and White Blood Center and Robertson Blood Bank located on the military base. Although these facilities did not request additional units to be sent at this time, we are prepared to assist should the need arise.

This tragic event is a reminder that it is the blood on the shelf that helps save lives today. Thankfully, there were committed individuals who donated days before and helped save the soldiers’ lives. We continue to encourage our donors to Commit for Life and donate at least once per quarter to ensure an adequate blood supply is always available when needed.
